So You Think You Need an App: How to Make the Right Software Development Choice for your Business

By 2020, global mobile app downloads will reach 284 billion, making mobile apps even more of an industry standard than they are today. Whether you’re an entrepreneur launching your company from the ground up, an established business leader looking to reach new audiences, or a manager seeking to enrich internal operations, mobile and web apps can offer powerful solutions – if implemented effectively. This talk covers explanations of the software development options available (e.g. dev firm, in-house developers, freelancers, offshore, online tools) as well as key evaluation criteria such as time, cost, maintenance, reliability, and customization. Come with questions– this is intended as an actionable discussion to help you move your development projects forward. Presented by Amelia Friedman, co-founder and COO of Hatch.

Hatch is an automated software development company enabling business leaders to launch a custom app on iOS, Android and web for a fraction of the cost of hiring a software development firm. Amelia Friedman has been recognized as a Y Combinator Fellow, a Washingtonian Tech Titan, a Top 40 Entrepreneur Under 40, one of DC’s 50 On Fire, and a Power Woman of DC Tech, and she was recently profiled in TIME magazine.

Prior to Hatch, Amelia founded the Student Language Exchange, an education nonprofit she grew to operate in 7 cities and for which she was awarded a Halcyon Fellowship.

An advocate for women in tech, Amelia launched the Vinetta Project in DC. The organization now grants a $20K cash prize to a local female founder, engages with 150+ founders and 100+ investors annually, and has helped DC-area female-founded companies raise millions in seed-stage funding.

This event is free, a light lunch will be served. Kindly RSVP and update it should your plans change. Parking is free in the garage adjacent to the building.

Amelia will be available after the event offering Office Hours for 30-minute appointments until 3 PM. To schedule a time, send an email to staff@launchworkplaces.com with your contact information.

Launch members will receive a discount for programming services from Hatch. Inquire at the front desk for the discount code.
