Creating Your Federal Resume & USA jobs

Creating Your Federal Resume & USA jobs

December 3, 2016 @ 2:29 pm – 3:29 pm

This is part one of a two part seminar. Dr. Jenny Tucker who works for the United States Department of Agriculture in her role as a carrying volunteer will take you through how to develop a Federal resume and how to submit it through USA Jobs. The federal hiring process is radically different from government contractors and the commercial market.

Working for the Federal government can be a tremendously fulfilling part of a public-service career – if you can get in the door! The Federal government’s hiring process is significantly different from many other sectors, and understanding the process can help increase your opportunities. To achieve this, this session will demystify the Federal hiring process. First, we will discuss how Federal job announcements are created and where they can be found. We’ll also review the sections of a Federal job announcement and their importance, and walk through the stages of the interviewing and hiring process. Finally, we will review the essential elements of a Federal resume, to maximize your ability to pass the initial screening process. To prepare for this session, please visit and search for 1-2 positions that interest you. Bring a copy of those announcements, and a copy of your resume. We will use those for workshop exercises to create an active hands-on session. Speaker Biography
