Launch Workplaces member Vishal Chintawar may have cracked the code for monitoring health and fitness and doing good all at the same time with his free app, Givhero. Released in January 2018, Givhero offers a new, active way to give back to the causes you care about.
With the app, you can set a health or fitness goal and select a charity to raise money for. Then invite sponsors — friends, family, even your employer — to donate when you reach your goal. The app connects to popular fitness tracking programs and devices and safeguards the privacy of all user data.
There are more than 30 charities inside the app, most of them local to the D.C. area. They’re supporting veterans, empowering youth through sports and education, advocating for women and families around the world, and much more.
Givhero covers the activities you may already be doing, or want to try — everything from walking, swimming and biking to losing weight and monitoring blood sugar. It’s easy and fun to turn everyday activities into donations to a cause that’s close to your heart. You can create a challenge within a group for friendly competitions, or make reaching your goals a solo endeavor.
“I wanted to create a way to make giving a habit, just like health and wellness, and give the power to the user,” says Vishal, who was influenced by the philanthropic activities of Bill Gates and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Vishal is promoting Givhero to small businesses that want an easy and no-cost way to incorporate wellness and charitable programs into their organizations. The platform is free for businesses and app users. For nonprofits receiving donations, there is a 3.5 percent management fee. “This is a win-win-win for employers, participants and the charities,” explains Vishal.
