Chances are your worklife could use a bit of a boost. Since many workers spend the majority of the week in the office, it’s vital that they gain some sort of enjoyment from it. Otherwise, work becomes a chore and productivity falls.
This time of year can be especially rough for office workers. It’s cold, the holidays have passed, and by the time your leave the office, the sun has set. Don’t let the winter season put you in an office rut. Here are 5 simple ways you can start enjoying your office life more, and in return, be more productive!
1. Incorporate exercise into the workday
Previously we discussed the dangers of sitting for prolonged periods of time during the workday. Yes, it is a huge health risk, but it could also be affecting your happiness at work. Exercising during the workday provides a healthy distraction from the stresses of the office, and can improve workers’ reactions to stressful situations.
A great way to fit in exercise is opting for a walk with a coworker instead of a sit-down meeting. Not only will you be relieved to get a change of scenery, but the change of scenery will also boost your creativity! You could even try to hit a yoga class during your lunch break. You’ll return to work feeling limber and reinvigorated.
2. Get outside at least once a day
Nature is calming and rejuvenating. Making a point to get outside during the workday can greatly benefit your overall mood and well-being. Obviously, bringing your laptop out to the park isn’t ideal, but you can easily eat your lunch outside or hold meetings outdoors.
Steve Jobs’s approach to getting outside during the workday was through walking meetings. Not only will you get to enjoy the outdoors—you’ll also get some exercise!
3. Participate in training
Engaging in training sessions is a sure-fire way to get to know your coworkers and build on your skill set. By investing in yourself through training and creative sessions, you’ll become more confidant in yourself and your capability to do your job.
Here at Launch Workplaces we offer a variety of training and creative sessions that all of our members are welcome to join. It’s a wonderful way to build relationships with other members, and improve yourself professionally and personally. See upcoming opportunities on our event calendar.
4. Give yourself some flexibility
Escaping from the office for a walk is one way to enjoy office life more, but another way is to escape from the office all together by working from home. We are not suggesting that you work from home permanently, but providing yourself with the flexibility to work from home when necessary is a luxury.
A change in scenery is a proven way to improve productivity and inspiration. If you wake up one day not wanting to leave the comfort of your home, we don’t blame you. Sometimes everyone needs a day to themselves, and by giving yourself the flexibility to work from home, you won’t feel guilty for wanting to do so.
5. Create a workspace you enjoy
Many studies show that your workspace can have a huge effect on your overall productivity and mood. Just like your bedroom, your office space should be a space that you feel comfortable and relaxed in. Keep personal items around that make you happy, but don’t go overboard; organization is also important. Think zen and uncluttered!
