Launch Workplaces Member Jody Friend Graduates from Goldman Sachs’ Small Business Program
Congratulations are in order for Launch Workplaces (Rockville) member Jody Friend, who graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Businesses (10KSB) program on August 2. Jody is a human resources expert and CEO of JLM HR Consulting based in Rockville.
The 10KSB program was created by Goldman Sachs as an investment to help entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity by providing access to education, capital and business support services. There is no charge for it and all expenses are paid. Participants gain practical skills in business topics such as negotiation, marketing, and employee management plus they receive tools and support to develop a strategic and customized business growth plan that will take their company to the next level. Located in 33 sites including Baltimore where Jody was enrolled, the 8000+ graduates of the program have outpaced national growth averages for similar size companies.
“This program was fantastic for my business,” enthuses Jody. “It was almost like a min-MBA.” Jody traveled to Baltimore twice a week from February to July to meet with the other 26 people in her cohort. It was a big commitment, and there were homework assignments, but she says, “the program helped me to think outside of the box for growth opportunities.” Jody already has a plan in place to grow her business by pursuing workforce development training opportunities. She also learned how to dig deep into her company’s financials and make operational changes that have improved cash flow and saved her company money.
