Writing a book can be a long and painful process. The right kind of environment is crucial to allow creative juices to flow and provide the incentive to get it done. For Bethesda-based author Caroline Miller, the new Launch Workplaces in Bethesda is the perfect environment to write her eighth book. “This place is extraordinary. It gives me 24 x 7 access, it’s safe, it’s bright, it’s affordable, and parking is easy,” enthuses Caroline. Caroline also found that the stand-up desks in the coworking area provide a lot of comfort for those long periods when she is writing. “This has been very seamless,” she notes. Previously, she would often check into a hotel to get the kind of environment she needs to meet her deadlines.
Ms. Miller has been writing since 1988 when she published a seminal book about surviving bulimia called, My Name is Caroline which resulted in hundreds of television and radio interviews. For the decades since then, Caroline has been a pioneer with her groundbreaking work in the areas of goal setting, grit, happiness, and success. She is recognized as one of the world’s leading positive psychology experts on this research and how it can be applied to one’s life for maximum transformation and growth. She was one of the early students to earn a Masters of Applied Positive Psychology (otherwise known as happiness) from the University of Pennsylvania. The “Father of Positive Psychology,” Martin Seligman, lauded Caroline’s scholarship, noting that she had “added a major missing piece to the world of coaching” because of her ground-breaking and evidence-based connection between Positive Psychology and success.
In addition to writing, Caroline is an executive coach, corporate speaker and visiting lecturer at the Wharton School of Business. She travels around the world to give keynote speeches to top corporations such as Morgan Stanley, Lululemon, RE/MAX, Booz Allen, Comcast, and Swisse Wellness. An upcoming trip to promote her books and lecture at universities includes a stop in New Zealand for the New Zealand Bar Association.
Launch Workplaces is fortunate to have someone with Caroline’s expertise as a member, and the vivacious writer is willing to share her wisdom with others in the office. In conjunction with another Launch member, MBO Settlements, we are planning a Business Book Group meeting in early October 2018 featuring Caroline and her seventh book Getting Grit. The book outlines how you can become grittier in a step-by-step way, using the new findings from Positive Psychology, which provide useful evidence-based tools for lasting change. It includes specially-created worksheets and exercises that will help the reader cultivate the mindset and behaviors that undergird authentic grit like humility, zest, persistence, patience, self-confidence, teamwork, self-regulation, and passion. Caroline will talk about the book and sign copies at the event. Visit Launch Workplaces for the exact date and to RSVP. You can visit Caroline’s website for a free sample chapter.
When Caroline Miller’s eighth book is published, we’ll be glad to say we had a (small) hand in its creation, and we hope she continues with Launch for her ninth tome!
