SILVER SPRING, Md. (March 6, 2020) – More than 100 business leaders recently turned out to celebrate the reopening of the Silver Spring Innovation Center (SSIC) Powered by Launch Workplaces.
With the remodeling, the SSIC Powered by Launch Workplaces now offers 39 offices and 30 flexible workspace seats ideal for emerging companies in the technology, cybersecurity, life sciences and health IT industries, all within walking distance of the Silver Spring Metro.
In 2018, Montgomery County and Launch Workplaces announced that the County was contracting out the management of its Silver Spring Innovation Center, located at 8070 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, to Launch Workplaces, a known provider of flexible workspace environments in commercial real estate.
The new look and feel incorporates design elements and features from other Launch Workplaces flexible workspace centers and includes an expanded and upgraded kitchen area, conference rooms and gathering spaces.
Welcoming guests and leading the Feb. 13 ribbon-cutting ceremony were Jane Redicker, president and chief executive officer, Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce; Benjamin H. Wu, president and chief executive officer, Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation; and Mike Kriel, chief executive officer, Launch Workplaces; Ruth Semple, manager, Economic Development Programs, Montgomery County Department of Finance; Melissa Gardner, SSIC Powered by Launch director of member success; and Pete Hill-Byrne, executive vice president, real estate, The Brick Companies.
In addition to 20,000 square feet of affordable turn-key office space, the SSIC Powered by Launch Workplaces offers government resources and connections, networking with other like-minded entrepreneurs, flexible lease agreements and extensive business technical assistance.
The Silver Spring space is one of three Montgomery County Innovation Centers operated by Launch Workplaces. The three innovation centers make up Montgomery County’s Business Innovation Network, a network that specializes in helping startups and small businesses in the technology, cybersecurity, life sciences, and professional services industries. The other incubators are in Rockville and Germantown.
