When it comes to financial literacy, Brad Sherman, Founder and President at Sherman Wealth Management, identified a gap.
“I realized that many people lack access to financial education, programs, and investments,” he explains. “And what’s worse, financial literacy universally just doesn’t get enough focus. There are a lot of really smart people with great jobs who just have no grasp on finances.”
That’s something that didn’t sit well with him.
So, in 2015, he started Sherman Wealth Management to make financial literacy and intelligent investing accessible to everyone.
Becoming the “Anti-Big Bank” Financial Services Company
From his years in the industry, Brad knew that many financial services companies often make financial literacy inaccessible for the average person.
“I learned a lot during my time working in financial services,” says Brad. “And one of the big things that stuck with me is the fact that big financial services companies often turn away clients who don’t meet a minimum investment benchmark and that the big banks frequently put the interests of their shareholders ahead of those of their clients.”
Because of this, he structured his business model to be fiduciary to clients, putting their own interests first, and offering his services to anybody who needed them.
Today, his clientele includes everyone from young families to Gen-Xers. And he also helps professionals and small business owners in setting up their 401(K)s and budgeting for their companies.
Building a Business in Gaithersburg Based on a Lifelong Passion
Brad was born in Silver Spring and moved to Potomac. Since he was a kid, he’s had a passion for the stock market. Later in life, this would transform into an interest in learning financial concepts and savings practices.
When he finally started his own business, Brad was running his company from his townhouse. And once things started moving online, he wanted a separate address for his business without having to commute far from home in the process. He also needed phone services, an administrative staff who could greet his clients at the door, and a beautiful, professional space where he could host them.
So, he transitioned Sherman Wealth Management’s HQ from his townhouse to Launch Gaithersburg. He was one of our first leases ever signed, before the space was even fully open.
Today, his business is completely set up for remote work, making Launch the perfect place for his company to call home. He’s developed an app that puts all of his clients’ information directly in the palm of their hands. He’s been able to take on bigger office space at Launch as his team has grown. And before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he was hosting frequent seminars in our event spaces — something he has since transitioned online.
What Does the Future Look Like for Sherman Wealth Management?
Looking ahead, Brad plans to continue growing his business, helping people take control of their finances, and assisting people in achieving their goals.
“One of the biggest things we want to keep doing is helping people achieve their financial goals,” Brad shares. “There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing clients achieve the outcome they set out for — whether it’s paying off their mortgage, reducing their debt, saving for their children’s futures, being able to retire with the money they’ve saved, or growing their business with smart financial planning.”
And he also plans to continue working to redefine the traditional perception of financial advisors — one that statistically puts consumer trust in financial services on par with that of used car salesmen.
His goal is to continue advocating for clients, standing on the same side of the table from them from a fiduciary perspective, and acting as the “anti-big bank” company.
