In Case You Missed It

Launch Workplaces welcomed business coach and adviser Jeff Miller today to teach a workshop on goal setting for 2017 for business owners. The room was full, as Launch members and guests were eager to start the year off on a good foot. However, this seminar was not your parents’ approach to goal setting! Instead of the usual seminar dialogue of making goals S.M.A.R.T and breaking down big goals into smaller tactics, Jeff spent a lot of time talking about mindset. You have to clear your head to get clear on your goals. One formula he shared was Be + Do = Have. Working backwards, he had us write down what we want to have (our goal). Next, we wrote down what we need to do (our tactics). Finally, we wrote down what kind of person we need to be to achieve those goals, such as committed, dedicated, honest, courageous, transparent, accountable, or skilled. In other words, who do you need to be to do the things you need to do to get what you want to have? These thoughts will help flesh out your overall plan for the year. Finally, we each planned out one goal that we want to accomplish in the next 90 days. For each individual goal, Jeff suggests you write down three priorities or reasons why it’s a goal, then five strategies or tactics to achieve that goal. Connecting with those emotional reasons of “why” creates clarity and sets the stage for successful implementation. It was another valuable session here at Launch Workplaces!
